Dr. Benjamin Barden is a distinguished orthopedic surgeon renowned for his expertise and contributions to the field of orthopedic sports medicine. Born and raised in Westchester County, New York, Dr. Barden displayed an early passion for medicine and a keen interest in helping others.
He pursued his undergraduate studies at Emory University, where he excelled academically and demonstrated his commitment to excellence. Following his undergraduate education, majoring in human biology and anthropology, Dr. Barden pursued an ongoing career in information technology. Dr. Barden started an internet-based business at the age of 18 and ultimately sold it prior to pursuing further business experience in the field of information healthcare technology with Andersen Consulting, BearingPoint, and ultimately Deloitte and Touch.
Dr. Barden soon left his career in IT for planned medical school attendance and was fortunate to attended Emory University School of Medicine where he earned his medical degree with multiple honors. During his time in medical school, he started the Aspiring Surgeons Program – a program devoted facilitating early operative experiences for medical student’s while providing teaching assistance to first year medical students for their cadaveric labs. Given his history as a woodworker and amateur welder, it was not surprise when Dr. Barden discovered and developed a particular interest in orthopedic surgery due to its combination of precision, problem-solving, and ability to significantly improve patients’ quality of life.
After completing medical school, Dr. Barden embarked on a rigorous residency program in orthopedic surgery at the prodigious Steadman Clinic of the Carolinas at Greenville Health System in Greenville, South Carolina. During his 5 year level 1 trauma residency program experience, Dr. Barden received comprehensive training in all aspects of orthopedic care. His dedication, skill, and compassionate patient care distinguished him as a standout resident.
Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Barden pursued further specialization through a prestigious fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of Connecticut Musculoskeletal Institute, where he honed his expertise in sports medicine and served as an assistant team physician for UCONN athletics. Throughout his fellowship, he worked alongside leading experts in the field and gained invaluable experience in the latest advancements in orthopedic surgery. These experts continue to serve as life-long mentors and colleagues for Dr. Barden and include Retired Colonel Dr. Robert Arciero (Univ. of Connecticut), Dr. Augustus Mazzocca (Harvard University), Dr. John Fulkreson (Yale University), and Retired Colonel Dr. Thomas Deberadino (UT Health San Antonio).
Dr. Barden is known for his commitment to staying at the forefront of his field through continued education and involvement in research. He has authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented his research at national and international conferences.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Barden is actively involved in teaching and mentoring the next generation of orthopedic surgeons. He serves as Associate Program Director for Peachtree Orthopedics’ Physician Assistant Orthopedic Fellowship Program and is dedicated to imparting his knowledge and expertise to medical students, residents, and fellows.
Dr. Barden is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and is a fellow of several prestigious orthopedic organizations. He is committed to providing personalized, compassionate care to his patients, helping them overcome orthopedic challenges and achieve optimal outcomes.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Barden enjoys spending time with his family, woodworking, welding, pursuing outdoor activities such as hiking and biking. He is deeply committed to serving his community and volunteers his time and expertise to various charitable organizations focused on improving musculoskeletal health.
